About the Role
An excellent opportunity is available for an experienced Mental Health Registered Nurse (RN2C) to join a Mental Health Inpatient & Community Service within a regional health setting in South Australia.
This role is predominantly clinical, suited to a nurse progressing from competent to proficient practice who is ready to take increased accountability for consumer care, clinical decision-making, and on-shift leadership. Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, you will deliver high-quality, recovery-oriented mental health nursing care while contributing to quality improvement, education, and service development initiatives.
This position will appeal to a motivated mental health nurse who enjoys working in both an inpatient environment as well as a community setting, values multidisciplinary collaboration, and is committed to evidence-based, culturally safe practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide proficient, person-centred mental health nursing care within both an inpatient and a community setting
- Monitor and evaluate consumer care plans to ensure safe and effective outcomes
- Provide shift-by-shift clinical leadership and support patient flow within the unit
- Recognise and respond to clinical deterioration and escalate concerns appropriately
- Support and guide Enrolled Nurses, students, and less experienced Registered Nurses
- Contribute to clinical governance, risk management, and quality improvement activities
- Participate in multidisciplinary care planning and service coordination
- Engage respectfully with consumers, families, carers, and external service providers
- Deliver care that is recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive
About You
- Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration
- Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing (essential)
- Minimum 3 years post-registration mental health nursing experience
- Demonstrated competence in inpatient and community mental health practice
- Strong communication, clinical judgement, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to consumer and family-centred care
- Experience supporting students and junior nursing staff
- Willingness to work a 24/7 rotating roster
- Understanding of culturally safe practice, including working with Aboriginal consumers
- Experience working in regional or rural settings will be highly regarded.
